How to Unleash Your True Golf Potential (Part 2)

In (Part 1) of this article I discussed how muscle imbalance can often keep a golfer from achieving his or her true playing potential. Even know these imbalances are quite common they often go untreated due to the fact that the golfer is focusing on the symptom and not the cause. The symptom in this case is the inaccuracy and loss of power in their swing. The cause is the muscle imbalance.

Postural deficiencies (imbalances) consist of tight (shortened) muscles and weak (lengthened) muscles. Common golf posture consists of a forward head and rounded shoulders. Proper program design will call for the tight muscles to be stretched and the weak muscles to be strengthened.

In addition, the average person also has a weak core and lack of neuromuscular joint stabilization making it even more difficult to control their body during a functional movement such as golf.

Common muscle imbalances of a golfer:

Forward Head Position
Anterior (front) neck muscles (tight/shortened) - Stretch
Posterior (rear) neck muscles (weak/lengthened) - Strengthen

Rounded Forward Shoulders
Pectoral (chest) muscles (tight/shortened) - Stretch
Rhomboid (upper middle back) muscles (weak/lengthened) Strengthen

Anterior Pelvic Tilt
Illiopsoas (hip flexor) muscles (tight/shortened) Stretch
Quadriceps (front thigh) muscles (tight/shortened) Stretch
Gluteal (buttocks) muscles (weakness) - Strengthen

Lack of Core Stability
Transverse abdominals / Internal Oblique (weakness) - Strengthen
Pelvic floor muscles (weakness) - Strengthen

The Core is where all movement begins. It is also the controlling force behind an individuals center of gravity. The core muscles support the spine and pelvis and are an essential part of driving the ball with power and accuracy.

Stabilization training increases communication between the nervous system and the muscular system which will result in increased joint stabilization during functional movements such as golf. Performing exercises that require balance such as single leg exercises, stability ball exercises or using unstable surfaces will increase neuromuscular efficiency (communication between the nervous system and muscular system).

The combination of corrective exercise, core training and stabilization training will greatly improve your ability to unleash the true potential of your golf game. A balanced posture, strong core and efficient joint stabilization will decrease any pain or discomfort in your swing and significantly improve the power and accuracy of your game.

How to Unleash Your True Golf Potential (Part 1)

Time and time again we see todays golfers out on the driving range trying to better their game. Whether its working their short game or driving the long ball, hours upon hours are spent on trying to master proper technique in order to take strokes off their game. What most golfers are unaware of is that the proper technique they are striving for is often hampered by something call muscle imbalance. Muscle imbalances are postural deficiencies that will cause faulty movement patterns, discomfort or even pain during activities such as a golf swing.

Muscle imbalances can be caused by many other factors besides golf, for example sedentary lifestyle, occupation, and injury just to name a few. Repetitive movements such as a golf swing can cause muscles on one side of the body to tighten while the apposing muscles become weak and lengthened. This will often result in the loss of power and accuracy in a golfers swing. For a golfer to achieve his or her true potential, one must correct these imbalances that are hampering their ability to perform proper technique.

Muscle balance can be achieved through a method of exercise called Corrective Exercise. This type of exercise program focus on identifying and correcting both tight (short) muscles and lengthened (weak) muscles through a series of strengthening and flexibility exercises. Achieving muscle balance will result in a strong balanced posture and allow the body to perform at an optimal performance level (increased power and accuracy).

In Part 2 of this article I will discuss the particular muscle imbalance of the common golfer and the corrective strategies that will help them unleash there true golf potential.

Why You Come Over The Top In Your Golf Swing

In this report, youre going to find out how you can eliminate your problem with coming over the top. But before you do, consider this:

As you know, its been well documented, that the average golfer has a slice or pull hookbecause they come over the top. Which is nice to know, but youd think that by now, there would be an EASY way to fix it!

Theres been so much written, recorded, videotaped and even transmitted.

Enough already.

We know what it looks like, we know what the results are, we know it produces weak slices or the ugliest pull hooks known to man.

Isnt somebody going to step forth and give the averge golfer a proven, easy-to-execute, cure for this debilitating ailment?

Isnt somebody going to finally provide golfers with a way to get to the root cause of this problem?

Isnt somebody going to ever reveal precisely what you need to do to correct itin the most simple termsso even a doofus could follow?

And with all the golf instructors on this planet, why hasnt anybody figured it out?

Or have they?

Do they know the precise adjustments you need to make?

Or dont they?

Maybe thats why theres so much emphasis on the usual things like takeaway and keeping your left arm straight. Sure these things are important, but if youre still going to come over the top in your golf swing, and produce a terrible golf shot, whats the use?

Why spend so much time and effort on golf lessons, or drills, or practice, if youre just going to end up coming over the topagain and again and again?

Its almost enough to make you want to quit this game.

Who wants to plunk down 50 bucks to play a round of golf, only to end up extremely frustrated, and maybe even a little angry, all because of a stinking problem with coming over the top?

Nobody! Thats who.

If youve had enough and finally want to get to the root cause of the problemand find out precisely what to do to fix it once and for all, heres what you need to do:

Get yourself a copy of Two Simple Adjustments That Will Stop You From Coming Over The Top, In 5 Swings Or Less at www.ClubWebSolutions.com. And before you know it, youre going to be able to move on with your game.

Golf Heaven on earth: Cap Cana, the worlds next great destination.

Cap Cana, in the Dominican Republic, is being marketed as the worlds next great investment opportunity and is arguably the most exciting resort project Latin America has ever seen. (www.capcanasales.com) Jack Nicklaus and Elvis Preston King will be there.

The Dominican Republic is a tropical island of stark contrasts that defy easy categorization. Rugged mountain peaks are capped by misty clouds, while deep verdant valleys carve a prehistoric maze through interior alluvial plains. Hundreds of miles of golden-and white-sand beaches rim both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, fronting light turquoise, emerald, and cobalt-blue seas. Those beaches are back-dropped by acres upon acres of lush palm tree forests running from sea to sea, hence the nickname: The Coconut Coast. Lastly, an intoxicating array of culturally important communities are draped in colonial charm, reflective of the Dominican Republics historical levity.
The $500 million master plan for 30,000 acres of ocean-front land 10 minutes from an international airport includes:-

Three Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses

The largest marina and one of the finest white sand beaches in the world

Beach, yacht, equestrian, golf and country clubs

Elegant boutiques and restaurants

A world-class spa

Tennis and swimming facilities

Deep sea fishing

Polo grounds

A casino

5,000-person amphitheatre

A private hospital

The first nine holes of the initial golf course are ready in April and many of the other facilities are coming on line this year.

At the heart of Cap Cana is its inland marina, the largest in the Caribbean and the starting point for diving, deep-sea fishing and sailing adventures.

Located on major maritime routes the marina will eventually accommodate more than 1,000 vessels up to 150ft.

As part of a commitment to ecologically responsible development, much of the resort will be car-free, with internal transport by golf buggy.

A broad range of homes, from sophisticated town houses and apartments to private villas on the grand scale, are being sold.

Two and three bedroom penthouse apartments within the Marina element of the resort, for example, will cost between $349,000 and $560,000.

Golfer: Improve Your Balance

Balance - it sounds so simple! As a golfer, you know that maintaining a proper balance is key to your game. And it's more than just having the correct stance.

Optimal balance depends on three aspects - your visual perception, the signals from the inner ear, and signals from your muscles and joints. Sometimes these aspects get out of sync, causing a balance disorder.

A lack of balance usually occurs when your head position changes - which is a good reason to keep your head still during your swing!

Migraines can attribute to a balance disorder. So if you have frequent migraines, seek medical attention. These headaches can affect your golf game in ways you may never have thought of.

Dont spend a fortune on new golf equipment hoping for better play before you check your medicine cabinet to see if any drugs youre taking affect your balance. The condition ear poisoning seriously affects your balance. Ear poisoning is usually caused by side effects of some medications - notably the antibiotic gentamicin. Up to 50 % of people who take this drug experience some sort of ear poisoning.

Diuretics can pose a problem as well. So if you're on any medicine and you start feeling dizzy, get medical help! Sometimes the dizziness can literally become a lifelong problem, so dont delay in seeking help.

If your balance is a little off in your game, you may want to do some simple exercises to improve it. Just kicking a ball around your backyard can help. You can also set up a little obstacle course and weave in and out of it to improve your balance. Your kids will have fun with the course, too! In fact, they may even set up one for you!

You can also buy a balance board to help you with your center of gravity. We found a handmade, well-crafted balance board on eBay. These boards are challenging and fun to use!

In addition, working with flexibility exercises helps increase your balance by releasing muscle tension. Try some simple yoga stretches to help with loosening up tight muscles.

Another useful item is a yoga ball or exercise ball. Even just sitting on one of these balls requires balance - so try using one for part of the day. Work up gradually until you can sit on the ball for 30 minutes at a time. These ball exercises can help you develop proper posture, increase the mobility of your lower back, and develop overall control of your body core.

Since balance is fundamental to every aspect of your golf game, spend some time each day working on developing it. Who knows? You could find your swing and your score improving dramatically!

Fearless Golf

The person who is relaxed and confident plays a better game of golf than one whose knees are shaking at the thought of sand traps. Fear is one thing you never want to take with you to the driving range.

Problems with a good player are almost always mental in nature. Thinking clearly really is the name of the game. And a clear head is impossible when fear reigns.

So if you change how you think, you change your game. Dont worry why the ball flew where it did. Just keep your mind focused on the next shot.

One of the big problems for some folks is that they constantly worry about what others will think of them if they make a bad shot. If youre thinking about how someone else is going to perceive you, youre not concentrating on the ball, on your swing, on the basics.

Must you have the approval of others? In the grand scheme of life, is hitting a bad shot truly a disaster you can never overcome?

Psychologists tell us that we tend to become a composite of the five persons were around the most. Maybe you need to find some more relaxed folks to practice with.

Playing with a perfectionist translates into no fun. Why ruin the joy of the game for yourself? Find friends you can play the game with just for the pure enjoyment. Your game will likely improve as youre less tense and able to swing more freely.

One help in this aspect of overcoming fear is to concentrate solely on your game. Ben Hogan wrote that to ignore the gallery and the other golfers, and to shut my mind against everything but my own game was key to his concentration.

If youre worried about what others think, chances are your game is really inconsistent. Youre overly aggressive one second and overly conservative the next.

The key? Focus on the target, not the situation. Ignore the stakes. Just concentrate on your game.

Perfectionism not only causes ulcers, but it ruins the joy of the game. Top players refine their skills every year. Theyre always improving in little ways that add up. Youre not always going to play your best game, and youll never play a perfect one - no matter how skilled you are. Work to improve little faults and your game will gradually get better and better.

Smiling widely relaxes your facial muscles, and serves you well in overcoming anxiety. Get into the habit of smiling before hitting the ball instead of furrowing your brow.

Dont dwell on mistakes. As Tiger Woods says, I hit it and forget it. You cant go back in time and replay a shot, so just forget about it and move on.

Dont worry about what others think of your shot making. Overcoming that fear alone will improve your game vastly! And when youre ready to play your next game think confidently and stay focused.

Youll soon become a master of fearless golf!

Golfer: Keep An Eye on The Ball

You hear this mantra in every sport keep your eye on the ball! Its a perfect chant for the golf player at every turn. If you cant see the ball clearly, your chances of hitting it are slim to none!

When you look at the ball, you want to keep your eyes on one spot. Dont look at your club to see if its squared to the ball. Dont let your eye follow the club as you draw it away

Just focus on the ball nothing else.

Also, when you look at the ball, try to get a birds eye view of it. Your eyes are about a foot above the pivotal center so raising your shoulders isnt going to help you see the ball better. Dont gaze at the ball along the line of the shaft of your club. Look down on the ball rather than get your angles along the shaft. This will give you much better results and you wont have a tendency to look up too soon.

Now, theres a natural tendency in everyone to look away when you start to draw the club back. Ignore that tendency and just keep looking down on top of the ball.

When you're looking down you'll notice that (if youre leaning over properly) the only way you can keep the club head in the line of flight is to keep your hands moving along parallel with that line. Sweep your hands along with the club head while the ball and head are in contact.

Mastering the skill of seeing the ball clearly until you hit it is true of every kind of shot. Whether the ball is in long grass, on an up or down slope, no matter whats around you -the main thing is to see the ball clearly to hit it accurately.

Very few golfers stand still when looking at the ball and concentrate their attention on seeing the ball clearly. A lot of the times people will give a glance in the direction they want the ball to go, then they look back at the ball. Many golfers would be shocked to find out that they dont stand still and keep their eye on the ball. The second your gaze shifts from the ball during any part of the swing, problems occur.

Really, a lack of concentration is responsible for most golfing mistakes.

You can hit the ball well when you can clearly see the ball at every point in your swing from start to finish.

If you want to wipe out one of the worst golf faults, determine that from the top of your swing until you hit the ball you will keep your eye clearly on the ball. Youll find your golf game improving so significantly your friends may start asking you for lessons!

Golf Is All In Your Head

Have you ever read one golf players valuable advice, only to find the next day a different professional vehemently disagreeing and advocating the exact opposite? One pro fanatically advises to keep your head straight. Later, another person comes along and gives completely contradictory advice.

Whats a golfer to do?

Listen to me, of course.

Were all different, and no two people play exactly alike. So dont get too caught up in this or that different method.

But there are some basic fundamentals that can make you or break you. And Im advising fanatically that you keep your head absolutely still and not move it from the spot in which you start.

You cant keep your head still if you stiffen your muscles. By keeping your head still, you loosen up and this allows you to finish your stroke smoothly and naturally. Keeping your head still also prevents slicing since you dont have to draw your hands in to keep your balance.

One championship winner admitted that every time he stepped up to the ball, at every shot he repeated to himself, Keep your head still. Keep your head still. Its a vital aspect to the game too many players overlook.

You will find yourself improving rapidly if you just master this one detail. If you happen to make a terrible stroke then focus on keeping your head still on the next stroke and youll do better.

See, when your head is still, your ability to see the ball at every point in the swing is enhanced. How can you watch the ball if your head is jerking here and there?

This is one sure way to build confidence in your golf game. Keep your head so still that you wouldnt jar a glass of water perched on top of it, and look at the ball when you make your stroke. Youll see the ball clearly and hit it more accurately.

No matter how nervous you are when youre playing, these two tips - keeping your head still and your eye on the ball - will help you play a better game.

Fitted For Golf

Generally, a set of clubs off the shelf isn't likely to be a perfect fit for you. Manufacturers create clubs for folks of average build whatever that is! Not only is everyone different in their physical make-up, but no two players swing exactly the same. So one golf club size definitely does not fit all.

If your clubs are too long or too short, you're likely to have problems. To find the right size clubs for you, try swinging with a few different lengths. Basically, you choose clubs that are about as long as the distance from your navel to the floor. You don't need to decide right awaylots of courses and driving ranges have sample clubs that you can practice with until you find the perfect fit!

You can rent different kinds of equipment, too. Before you invest in a set of expensive clubs, try a variety of types at your local golf course. Test the waters for a few months. See what feels best for your game.

Now, if after youve tried out several brands of clubs, and youre getting serious about the game, its a good idea to get custom fitted by a PGA professional at a golf range. Dont do this until youre able to consistently repeat a swing. Bottom line if you cant hit worth a nickel, you dont need to be fitted for clubs yet!

A golf pro can help you find which clubs are best for you. As previously stated, everyone has a different physique. Some clubs just arent going to feel right to you. This is no reflection on your game and certainly no reason to quit playing. By getting custom fitted for your clubs, you will likely hit the ball more consistently and accurately.

First, the fitter will have you hit a few balls. This is no time to try to impress. Just hit normally, and try to loosen up. Your swing speed will be recorded to determine the right flex of shaft.

Fitters will take into account the length of the club so that its comfortable for you. Theyll look at your hands to determine if you need special grip fitting. You may need longer or shorter clubs.

The angle of the club may be adjusted for you as well. When youre done with the fitting, specific recommendations will be made regarding

  • Length of club
  • Size and design of clubhead
  • Lie angle
  • Shaft type
  • Grip type
  • Set make-up

Then you can make a wise decision on exactly what clubs to purchase. You will likely see an improvement in your game overall when you have the right equipment, tailor-fitted for you.
